Open Data Albania is investigating the data concerning newly founded entities and business companies, which were registered in 2015 at the National Registration Center, NRC.  During this analysis it is trying to explore new business structure by gender ratio of the owner or manager of the entity, his/her nationality, domestic or foreign, as well as geographical distribution in various districts of the country. The year 2015 recorded the highest number of business entities registered in the country. This was due to the enforcement measures implemented by the tax administration in the framework of anti-informality campaign.

From 39 650 economic entities registered in 2015, 13,545 are either run or owned by a woman. According to a percentage ratio on the running or possession of new economic entities registered in 2015, 34% of entities are owned and managed by women versus 66% that are owned and managed by men. This is the first time when women exceed the rate of thirty per cent. This gender division is not accompanied by further information on the possession of capital in these economic entities.

An interesting fact is that foreigners are present as partners, shareholders or administrators in new entities registered in 2015. Out of the total number of registered entities, 1058 are totally owned by foreigners and 337 entities are possessed both by foreign and Albanian citizens, which means that they are entities with a mixed possession.

Although they constitute only 4% of the total economic entities in general, the possession of shares quota from foreigners stand at over 30% in the case of business entities of LLC and JSC type. This presence is due to the interest of small and medium-sized businesses, mainly in neighboring countries such as Italy, to develop economic activity in countries with low-cost product.

The number of business entities registered in 2015 has been high not only concerning the total but also for each category of registration. Data analysis of this year is very interesting in terms of economic impact and business well-capitalization. The year 2015 was the year of anti-informality campaign and assessment of de facto increase of the economic activity is of much interest.
