If we look at the data concerning spending by main consumption groups, during 2020 we notice that Albanian households are still dependent on basic expenditures for survival, utilities and rent, and spend less on clothing, entertainment, education and culture.

The main item in consumer spending in 2020 is Food and Non-alcoholic beverages, occupying a share of 41.6% of all expenses, followed by Housing, Water, Electricity, Rent at 10% rate. Albanian households spend only 3.1% on Education and 2.8% on Entertainment and Culture. According to INSTAT statistical figures, Albanian households spent only 5.4% of their family budget on Health during 2020.

Interesting is the fact that an Albanian household whose head has higher or post-university education consumes only 1.6 times more every month than a family whose head has a minimum education of 8 or 9 years. Education, apparently, is yet to mark a polarization of the quality of life between the two groups.
