In the four years, 2018 – 2021, 1120 researchers were accredited with a post-graduate degree of Doctor of Science in Albanian Universities. Of these, 713 weree women, or 64% of the total, as opposed to the 36% that were men, or 407 researchers.

But in contrast to the statistical reality regarding the graduation in Doctorate level, women are less engaged as academic staff in universities. Men comprise the majority in the latter, with 58.8% of them holding academic positions, while women account for only 41.2% of the University Academic Staff (year 2020). Over the years, the situation of women engaged at the academic level as lecturers or academic staff has improved, but it is still does not reflect the aspired balance.

In the justice system, the numerical ratio continues to work in favor of men, given that in 2020 46% of the court positions were occupied by women, against 54% occupied by men.

Another career position, in which women are a minority, is managerial positions in public administration. In 2020, only 35% of these positions were held by women and the rest was occupied by men.

In politics, and specifically at the Parliamentary level, in the last elections for Deputies, women scored a victory winning 47 seats out of 140 MP seats of the Assably, which in terms of eprcentage is around 33.57%. The electoral law compels political entities to respect positive discrimination in the drafting of Electoral Lists, by guaranteeing candidacies with at least 30% representation for woman, in order to close the gender gap.
