In 2021, 22% of those convicted for the criminal offense of corruption are women. This percentage is considerable, if we take into account that only 13% of the total number of convicted for criminal offenses are women. Open Data Albania, based on the Statistical Yearbook of the Ministry of Justice, has examined the data on corruption-related crimes through the 2013-2021 period, as well as gender ratios among those bearing responsiblity for these crimes. Criminal Proceedings on Corruption in the Republic of Albania, are divided into 6 groups of criminal offences:
1. Corruption in the Public Sector
2. Conflict of Interest and asset declaration
3. Corruption of Officials
4. Corruption in the Judicial System
5. Corruption in the Private Sector
6. Forgery.

This chart shows the highest number of women convicted for criminal offenses: abuse of office and forgery of documents. In 2021, respectively, 25 femal individuals were convicted for abuse of office and another 21 for falsifying documents.
Abuse of office refers to the intentional performance or non-performance of actions or omissions in violation of the law, which constitutes regular failure to perform the duty, by the person exercising public functions, when they have brought the incumbent or other persons material or immaterial benefits, by way of which they unfairly harmed the legitimate interests of the state, citizens and other legal entities.
In the 2013-2021 time frame, the year 2016 marks the highest number of women convicted for corruption, where a total of 132 women were convicted; more specifically, 74 for corruption in the public sector, 53 for forgery, 3 women for acts related to conflicts of interest and declaration of wealth, and one case convicted for corruption of officials and 1 woman convicted for corruption in the judicial system.

The number of female convicts for corruption accounts for an average of 9% of the total number of female convicts for all criminal offences. The year with the highest number of female convicts in the time frame of 2013-2021 is 2017 where a total of 1025 females individuals were convicted. Of these, only 48 have been convicted for corruption.

In the group of those convicted on charges of corruption, ODA concludes that, on average, there are 12% of women and 88% of men convicted in the Republic of Albania every year. For the years under analysis, 2021 shows an upwards trend in this regard, where it was now 22% of those convicted for corruption that were women.
