Cyprus is the country that invests more of its Gross Domestic Production on education, on the average of 6.4%; followed by Slovenia and Hungary which spends on education at the level of 5.68% and 5.15% respectively. These three countries are above the EU average of 5.1%

Albania is among the last countries in the region comparing the percentage of education budget vs. its GDP, leaving behind only Turkey, while it is far from the EU average. The decreasing trend of this indicator in recent years in Albania, (to 2.8% for 2011), shows that reaching the EU standards in education spending remains an illusion.
