Open Data Albania has conducted a research work on the average and minimum retirement pension in the Albanian villages and cities during the last decade. The report is based on datasets of the monthly pension benefited by the individuals provided from INSTAT (Albanian Institute of Statistics).

In the last years, the average retirement pension payment has changed as shown in the following chart:

The data show that in 2009, the average monthly pension payment in the city was 12,032 ALL, while it was 6,656 ALL in the village. From the graph we can see that the value of the retirement pension payment has increased. The largest increase of the retirement pension in the city results in 1998 (20%), and in the village in 2009 (29%). While the lowest increase of the average pension in the city and village was experienced in 1997 (4% and -7% respectively).

Concerning the minimum retirement pension payment, which is determined by the Council of Ministers, it has changed as shown below:

In 2009, the average pension payment in the city was 12,032 ALL, while in the village it attained 6,656 ALL per month.

As it can be seen from the graph, the value of the minimum pension payment has been increasing. Its largest increase in the city results in 1998 (23%), and in the village in 2001 (30%). Only in 1997 no increase was observed on the minimum retirement pension in the city and village.
