Although the share of assets of non-bank financial institutions, to GDP has increased, compared to assets of the banking system which occupies about 80% of GDP, these institutions still have a low relative weight in the Albanian financial system ( about 3% of the financial system).

Non-bank financial institutions are still in early stages of development in Albania, but in future their importance should increase, as has happened in other developed countries where these institutions play an important role for financial intermediation in the economy.
