Open Data Albania has conducted a research on the population of Kosovo, based on data provided by the Statistical Agency of Kosovo (SAK).

During the recent decade, the population size of Kosovo has changed as shown below:

Based on the data provided by SAK, in 2009 Kosovo’s population was 2,181,000 banorë. The graph shows a continuous growth of population in Kosovo. In 2009 the population was 1.3% higher than the prevous year. This rate of growth is much higher than Albania’s, where for the same time period the population growth was 0.75% (almost 2 times lower than Kosovo’s).

The natural population addition  is shown in the graph below:

Based on data provided by SAK, in 2009, the natural addition of population (which is calculated as the difference between births and deaths) was 27,210. The rate of addition has fluctuated over the years, and the peak was reached in 2002, when the natural addition was 30,482 people.

The analysis shows that the population of Kosovo is growing relatively fast, with an average of 1.35% during the recent years. This rate of growth is twice as high as Albania’s. A high rate of natural population addition is the main factor that contributes to the decrease of the popullation ageing.
