Employment structure by economic activity

Employment rate is defined as the percentage of working age population of a country which is employed. Open Data Albania has conducted a research on the structure of employment in non-agricultural sector and its performance in years, based on data from INSTAT. Structure of employment in non-agricultural enterprises according to the economic sectors, in 2009 is shown as follow:

For 2009, the non-agricultural sector that contributes the most in employment rate is “industry” (the processing industry plays the main role) with 31% of the total, and “trade” with 27% of the total jobs generated. “Construction” and “Transport-communication” occupy small percentage in terms of employment, with respectively 15% and 9% of the positions.

During 2008-2009 the industry sector has shown a decrease on employment levels, with a drop of 0.33%. Construction and the trade sector have slowed the growth rates by respectively 3% and 5%, relatively to the transport and service sector that have increased the number of employees by higher rates, 7% and 15% each.

We conclude that governmental fiscal policies applied to different sectors of the economy should also take in consideration the impact of these policies in employment level of enterprises.
