The Broadband connection is one of the ways to use the internet. This indicator includes the contracts which enable the consumers to secure internet connection through: a modem which is attached to a cable transmission network, DSL technology (Digital Subscriber Line), other users of broadband or dedicated analogue lines.

A characteristic of this system is that clients pay for high speed internet, generally above 256 kbit/second. It does not include the customers who have internet access via their cell phone service. The state of the broadband subscriptions are shown in the graph below:

Based on the data provided by ITU, records of broadband contracts for Albania appear for the first time in 2005, with 272 contracts, thereby being only a small part of the total fixed internet service contracts in the country. In 2007, this number grew to 10,000, or 25% of the total contracts. Year 2008 marks a strong turning point for the overall internet distribution through the broadband network. Roughly there were about 6.4 times more broadband users in 2008 than in 2007, which also explains the increase in the number of internet users after 2008. During 2009 and 2010 the pace of growth in terms of the number of users with respectively 43% and 14.7% more, however it is still quite noticeable that broadband service is gaining more and more market versus the dial-up service, resulting in 94% of the entire market in 2010.

Each year as the number of contracts for internet service through cable connections has grown, so has 0.01 in 2005, in 2008 it grew to 2.01, meaning that about 2 people in every 100 were clients using the broadband service. In 2010 this indicators reached 3.29.
