Open Data Albania has reviewed the rate of insured deposits to total deposits in Albania, based on data from the Deposit Insurance Agency (ASD) for the years 2004-2012. The Deposit Insurance Agency is an institution created based on the law number 8872, as of 29.03.2002 “Insurance of Deposits”.

The main purpose of ASD is the insurance and compensation of the deposits of individuals in the commercial banks of the Republic of Albania. The affiliation in the insurance schema is a prerequisite for all the banks that operate in the territory of the Republic of Albania. Every insured bank must pay to ASD an initial contribute of 0.5% of the core capital and a yearly insurance fee of 0.5% of the average amount of deposits.

Insured deposits are:

• All kind if deposits for individual clients;

• The insured amount is up to 2.500.000 ALL.

As can be seen graphically, the year 2009 the rate of insured deposits has increased considerably. This is the result of the change in law of the amount insured from ASD from 700,000 ALL to 2,500,000 ALL, which increased the rate of deposits which is included in the insurance schema if ASD.

In the end of 2004, deposits of individuals amounted to 310 billion ALL, of which 167 billion were insured (54%). By the end of 2012, the deposits of individuals were 832 billion LEK, while the deposits insured by the system were 546 billion LEK (or 66%).
