The export of “wood, articles of wood and wood charcoals” has been steadily increasing from year to year, going from 1.2 billion in 2008, to 1.8 billion in 2012. This year marks the largest increase compared with previous periods, 8% more than in 2011. Meanwhile, imports, despite being several times higher than exports, have had an upward trend only in the years 2009-2010, while in 2011 remained almost at the same level. In 2012 they mark the first decline, dropping from 7.22 billion in 2011, to 6.7 billion, or 6.8% less.

To obtain a more complete picture on the export and import of timber, Open Data Albania has analyzed their structure for 2012. The biggest value, about 50%, is represented by the export item of “wood fuel” with 612 million, followed by “sawn timber” with 211 million and “wooden skeletons paintings” with 199 million. These three items constitute about 84% of the value of exports for 2012.
