Open Data Albania is investigating the causes of death of children from 0 to 5 years. According to indicators of mortality for this age group in 2012 results show that the complications of the first month after birth account for 47% of cases of child mortality 0 -5 years. This level refers the need for a more quality post-natal care.

Similarly, Pneumonia is the diagnosis for 11% of deaths among children under age 5, while a quite serious indicator is noted in the proportion of deaths due to accidents and physical injuries. This cause stands at 10%, telling that one out of ten Albanian children that die in the early age of 0 to 5 years, is a victim of rape; accidents or firearms.

The 0-5 year?s child deaths in Albania from disease such as malaria; AIDS or measles are at level 0%. What is striking is that the death rate from injury is too high compared with the region or the Europe as a whole.

As we see from the research of Open Data Albania, injuries, become the cause of death, five times more than in Macedonia, two times more than in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Even in Serbia and Greece, deaths caused from injuries are many times less than in Albania.

It is interesting to say that compared to Albania, there are very few places in the world, with higher values of the percentage of deaths caused by injuries. There can be mention here the U.S., China, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Estonia, and the Republic of Korea etc. This is a situation not at all positive which should draw attention to increase efforts for better security of life from accidents, violence and firearms.
