Effective and official retirement age. Workers can retire before or after the official age of retirement in case that they want to work longer or has already fulfilled the required years of contributions or if they want to work longer. In OECD countries there are several cases when workers retire much later than the official retirement age and there are also many countries where workers prefer earlier retirement. In Albania such difference is minimal.

In Mexico, Korea, Chile and Japan the effercive retirement age for men is much higher than the official retirement age. Spain, Italy, Germany or Belgium is on the other side. There men go on retirement several years before the official retirement age. For women is the same situation. Japan, Chile or Korea, retirement is postponed by several years aftwr the official age while in Germany or France, women goes on retirement up to five years before the official retirement age.
