Open Data Albania has conducted a research related to foreign nationals who have residence permits to live and work in the Republic of Albania for the period 2011-2013. In 2013 in our country it is reported that two thousand one hundred and eighty-nine foreign nationals were given the employment permit from the National Employment Service. According to the national legislation, any foreign national who is provided with an employment permit has the obligation to also have a residence permit in the Republic of Albania.

In the 2011-2013 time frame the largest number of work permits for foreigners is marked in year 2012 with 2,499 permits, of which 2,199 for employees, 275 self-employed and 25  investors.

These foreign nationals who have chosen to live and work in the territory of the Republic of Albania, have employment permit in various sectors of the economy. The economic activity with the highest number of work permits for foreigners is construction, which makes up 29% of total permits. In this sector were issued 635 permits from 2189 that were issued in total. Other sectors with high numbers of permits are: trading and services with 306 permits each, Processing industry with 263 permits, Mines and quarries with 241 permits etc.
