Open Data Albania has updated FDI according to the country of origin during years 2010-2013. Foreign direct investments are an important source of capital flows and economic development. They include investments of foreign individuals and institutions in the local economy, if the investment makes the investor owner of more than 10% of the capital of an enterprise.

During the 2013 the county of origin of most of Foreign Direst Investments in Albania is Greece with 1.1 billion euros or 31% of the total.

Other important countries with regard to FDI are Austria (11%), the Netherlands (10%) and Turkey (8%). Interesting is Italy, where the value of FDI for 2013 appears negative, which shows that in 2013 there were investors who previously had investments in Albania and have transferred investments to the country origin or other countries.

Foreign Direct Investments over the years are still in favor of the Greek County. In the 2007-2013 time frame FDI in Albania have mostly originated from Greece, investments which have been increasing year by year.

In total, for the 2013 year, FDI marks a value of 2.85 billion euros. This value appears to be lower than in the two previous years where FDI stood at the levels of 3.26 billion euros in 2012 and 3.4 billion euros in 2011.
