Open Data Albania has conducted a research on some major groups (parent company) that own shares in JSCs controlled by them. The survey estimates the number of companies and the value of the share capital. Indicators are based on data obtained from historical extracts of JSC-s as presented in the National Registration Center NRC, in June 2014.

During the research on the shareholding structure of JSC’s in the country, it can be noticed a significant presence of several large groups that own some joint stock companies. Based on Article 207 of ‘On Entrepreneurs and Commercial Companies’ Law of the Republic of Albania, these are called parent companies. The companies, where they own not less than 30% of votes (shares, quotas), are called controlled companies.

Thus, the analysis shows that there are six highlighted major groups (holdings) which own shares in 26 JSCs in the country, with a total capital at the value of 148 million Euro. This capital constitutes about 5% of the total capital of all 847 JSC-s operating in the country.

Raiffeisen Group is a shareholder of 3 Joint Stock Companies controlled by it, with a capital of 103.6 million euro or 70% of total capital owned from the six groups of parent companies.

Austrian Gaming Industries AGI that controls 3 companies with about 9% of the total capital of groups.

Union Group controls 5 companies with about 8% of the capital.

2K Group has under control 5 JSCs or about 7% of the total capital held by the groups with a basic capital with the value of 10.2 million Euro.

Kurum Group owns the highest number of controlled JSCs 8 companies, but with a capital that doesn’t constitute more than 6% of the total capital owned by the groups.

Albanian Power Corporation although owns shares in two controlled JSCs, constitutes an insignificant level of capital.
