The average monthly wage in the private and public sector in Albania and the countries of the region

Open Data Albania is researching on the level of average monthly wage in the public and private sector. The average monthly wage is the gross wage received by an employee in the public / private sector for the work performed. This salary consists of: a) basic salary for work performed; b) Additional payment for managerial functions; c) Additional payment for seniority; d) Additional payment for difficulties at work; and e) other regular supplements (titles, degrees, etc.). Personal contributions and income tax are not deducted from the average monthly gross wage.

Average monthly gross wage in the public sector has been increasing steadily since 2000. The largest increase of the average monthly wage in the public sector happened in 2007, when it was increased by about 17% if compared with a year ago. In 2014, the average monthly wage in the public sector went up by only 1.7% on annual basis marking so the lowest increase of the average monthly wage in this sector.

The average monthly gross salary per one employee is also calculated alongside the monthly average gross wage in the public sector. This average salary is calculated as the ratio of salary and monthly treatments with the number of employees both in the public and private sector. By sectors of the economy, the average monthly wage is higher in the transportation and communications sector. Starting from 2000 until 2013, this sector maintained the highest rate of the average wage per employee with the exception of Year 2008 when the construction sector had the highest average salary per employee.

Wages in the construction sector experienced a tremendous growth in the years 2007-2009, while in the last four years the average monthly salary in this sector has declined. The average monthly salary rates in the industry sector were increased on continuous basis in each passing year.  The average monthly salary in the sectors of Trade and Services was consistently increased until 2009, but after this year the average monthly wage in these sectors has undergone fluctuations.

Countries in the region calculate the average monthly gross wage in their country economy by including public and private sector. In some countries these data are updated every month and in some other countries they are updated every quarter. On the other hand in countries like Albania, these data pertain to 2013. Hungary has the highest average gross monthly wage in the economy compared with other countries under review with about 776 Euro / month. Then comes Montenegro with an average salary of 721 euros / month.

Other countries have an average salary ranging from 400 Euro / month up to 700 Euro / month. As for our country, according to 2014 data the average monthly gross wage in the public sector is only 380 Euro / month that is lower than the average monthly salary in the economy of other regional countries.  It is worth underlining that according to the data, the average monthly gross wage in the public sector is always much higher than the average gross monthly wage in the economy.
