The two indicators that show the change of social behavior in our country are the gross marriage coefficient and the divorce coefficient. The gross marriage coefficient is the number of marriages per 1,000 inhabitants in a given year, while the divorce ratio is the number of divorces per 100 marriages in a given year.

In 1990, 8.9 marriages per one thousand inhabitants occurred, while in 2014 this indicator was 8.2. This ratio includes a high margin of error due to calculation methodology used by the Institute of Statistics. While figures concerning marriages are taken from the National Civil Registry, which keeps records on the number of marriages of Albanian citizens not residing in the country, the number of population is calculated according to the latest Census, which didn?t record emigrants residing in foreign countries although they had the Albanian citizenship.

On the other hand, a coefficient of 17.8 divorces per one hundred marriages in 2014 testifies that a new stage of the social model of the Albanian society has already started. During this year, eighteen marriages out of one hundred marriages ended with divorce.
