Open Data Albania is investigating the level of wheat output in the Republic of Albania for 1998-2014 period. The data used in the analysis were obtained from the Institute of Statistics. INSTAT drafted these statistics based on administrative information collected in the field by specialists of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Water Management.

According to the methodology used, wheat output is a synonym of the harvested production and includes the sold quantities, the farm families direct consumption, losses and waste on the farm and losses during transport, storage and packaging.

In 2014, a total of 280 thousand tons of grain were produced and the wheat production decreased by 5%.

Wheat output in our country has undergone constant ups and downs over the years. The highest level of wheat production was recorded in 1998, when about 395 thousand tons of grain was produced. Year 2006 is the worst year in the production of wheat, when about 230 thousand tons of grain were produced.

As regards the annual growth of grain output, the largest increase was recorded in 2008 when about 34% more wheat than a year ago was produced. On the other hand, the largest annual drop occurred in 1999, when compared with a year ago about 31% less wheat was produced.

In 2014, Fier region had the greatest weight in wheat output with about 27% of the total, Korca region with about 22% of the total, the region of Elbasan with approximately 15% of the total, Tirana and Berat districts with about 7% of the total each. Other districts have weights ranging from 2 to 4%.
