Internet usage. Subscribers, Access and Volume 2010-2014

Open Data Albania is investigating on the progress of Internet use in 2010-2014. According to the Authority of Electronic and Postal Communications, AEPC, there have been changes over the years both in the number of subscribers with broadband access and in the means used to access the Internet as well as the volume of data transmitted.

In 2014, AEPC reported a total of 1,637,994 subscribers to the Internet, from whom 206,896 are subscribers with broadband access from fixed networks, 177,613 are subscribers with broadband access 3G with USB / modem and 1,253,485 are subscribers with broadband access 3G with mobile device.

From the subscribers with Internet access from fixed networks, 40% use Albtelekom operator (82 118 subscribers), 23% ABCOM operator (47 480 subscribers), 13% use Albanian Satellite Communications ASC operator (26 379 subscribers), 11% Abissnet operator (23 259 subscribers) etc.

3G Internet was provided by 3 operators until 2014, respectively AMC, Vodafone and Albtelecom. Vodafone operator has the highest number of subscribers to broadband access 3G, respectively 86,580 subscribers with USB / modem and 858,366 subscribers to mobile device

Internet use has increased over the years. In the span of five years (2010-2014), the number of subscribers with broadband access from fixed networks increased by 72%. In 2010, 120,000 Internet subscribers with fixed network, or 86,896 subscribers less than in 2014 were reported.

3G internet subscribers on the other hand increased by over 400% in the time frame 2011-2014. In the years 2011-2012, this service was provided only by AMC and Vodafone operators, whereas during 2013-2014, this service was provided from Alb Telekom operator.

Increased use of the Internet over the years has led directly to an increase in the volume of data transmitted. If in 2012, data of 796,000 Kbyte were transmitted via the Internet, in 2014 about 8 times more data of 6269940 Kbyte were transmitted.
