In 2010, the agricultural sector contributed by about 18% to the GDP, making it a key sector in the economic development.<p><\/p>\n<p>In Albania, agricultural lands occupy about 24.2% of the surface and the forest and pastures occupy the rest of it. The county with the lowest level of income from agriculture is Kukes, providing about 2 billion ALL per year. Only in 2010, the government decided to subsidize farmers who plant olives, citrus, fruit trees and vineyards.
