The data were obtained from the electronic newsletters or manuals of the Central Election Commission. This research article contains statistical as well as specific information on the mayoral winners in the local elections of 2000, 2003, 2007 and 2011. In the local government elections of 2000 there were five municipalities where women were the mayoral winners. The electoral process of 2000 had the best outcome in terms of this ratio, with a figure of 7.6 per cent. More concretely, in the 2000 local government elections the following were elected: Ms. Luljeta Dollani for the Municipality of Gramsh, Ms. Lindita \u00c7obo for the Municipality of Roskovec, Ms. Mangalina Cana for the Municipality of Pogradec; Ms. Marie Biba for the Municipality of Rr\u00ebshen and Ms. Rreshen and Ms. Bukuri Me\u00e7e for Municipality of Delvina.<\/p>\n<p>In the 2003 electoral process no woman was elected as a mayor. The sixty-five municipalities in the country were all headed by male mayors for the mandate 2003 &#8211; 2007.<\/p>\n<p>In the local government elections of 2007 there was only one female mayor out of 65, Ms. Af\u00ebrdita Alite in the Municipality of Shijak.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, in the current mandate of mayors, there were only three winning female mayors. Specifically, there are Ms. Adelina Farrici, Municipality of Burrel; Ms. Rajmonda Balilaj, Municipality of Patos and Ms. Mimoza Arapi, Municipality of Konispol.
