This aims to show support and to encourage the Government, as well as local and national institutions to adopt policies on open data. This event was organized from the Albanian Institute of Science, with the financial support of <span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Open Society Foundation for Albania (SOROS)<\/span> and the <span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Faculty of Economy of Tirana University<\/span> as the host institution.<\/p>\n<p>The event was concluded with the announcement of the three winners for <span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255); font-weight: bold;\">Open Datathon Albania<\/span> 2011<\/p>\n<p>The winners of <span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255); font-weight: bold;\">Open Datathon Albania<\/span>, December 20, 2011&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">First Prize (300 USD)<\/span> \u2013 Tirana Bus Station<\/p>\n<p>Authors: <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Jonid Kanini<\/span>, student of Geo-Informatics in Tirana Polytechnic University and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Julian Kanini<\/span>, programmer. Although Tirana is a European city, its citizens lack a dynamic map that shows the stations of public transportation. A foreigner or a new resident that wants to locate a bus station needs to ask the passersby or senior citizens of Tirana. The residents of Tirana deserve a detailed map, advertised in public spaces or in a webpage, including the public services offered. The two Datathon Albania winners worked in the field, taking records of bus stations and measuring the distances of Tirana\u2019s 25 bus lines.<\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yPWn8zABmi4\"><\/iframe><br \/> \n  <\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Second Prize (150 USD)<\/span> \u2013 Employment; Private Enterprises<\/p>\n<p>Authors: <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Mariola Kapidani, Olta Begu<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Eni Didi<\/span>, Master Students of Economic Faculty<\/p>\n<p>Employment is the most interesting topic for the Albanian students and, at the same time, one of the most important issues for the Albanian economy and society.
