Open Data Albania is updating the data associated with the emitted money, banknotes and coins used as a medium of exchange in the Republic of Albania in 2013. Data were obtained from the Bank of Albania as the only authority responsible for the issuance and circulation of our national currency.

During 2013, turns out to have been thrown into circulation coins and banknotes that constitute a value of 207,766,000,000 ALL (two hundred and seven billion seven hundred and sixty-six million). During this year, we conclude that the value of banknotes is 60.2 times greater than the value of coins in circulation. In 2013 there were thrown into circulation new coins or banknotes with a value of 6.867 billion ALL.

In the Republic of Albania there are eleven kind of coins that serve as a means of payment, starting from the first copper coins of 1 ALL followed by 5 ALL, 10 ALL, 20 ALL, 50 ALL and lately 100 ALL. As for banknotes, the smaller one is 200 ALL, followed by 500 ALL, 1000 ALL and 2000 ALL. The denomination with the greatest value is 5000 ALL.

The largest share of banknotes in circulation is constituted from the banknote of 1000 ALL with 42% of the total amount of banknotes in circulation in the Republic of Albania in 2013. The smallest amount of banknotes in circulation belongs to the denomination of 200 ALL and 5000 ALL, which comprise respectively 8 and 15% of the total. While in value, the emission of the denomination of 1000 ALL is comparatively higher than the other banknotes, and marks the value of 85,836,000,000 ALL.

During 2013 the most used coin was the one of 10 ALL that occupied 28% of all coins used, followed by 20 ALL that occupies 24% of the total. While in value the emission of the 10 ALL coin marks a value of 950,000,000 ALL.

The amount of banknotes and coins thrown into circulation from the Bank of Albania in 2007 marked the value of 161,162,000,000 ALL (one hundred sixty one billion one hundred and sixty-two million). This value has increased in the following two years to score 216,767,600,000 ALL (two hundred and sixteen billion seven hundred and sixty seven million six hundred thousand) in 2009. In the year 2013 it has increased by an amount of 6,867,000,000 ALL compared with the previous year.
