Open Data Albania has updated data on road accidents happened in the country in the period 2009-2013. During these five years the number of road accidents has been increasing due to road signaling problems, lack of caution from drivers and pedestrians on the road etc.

The only exception is the year 2012 during which the number of road accidents decreased by 0.3% compared with a year ago. Year 2013 marked two thousand and seventy-five accidents on the road. As a consequence, two hundred and ninety-five people lost their lives and two thousand five hundred and three were injured.

According to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure the number of people killed in road accidents in the years 2009-2013 has decreased, while the number of injured ones has been increasing. The number of people killed for every ten thousand motor vehicles decreased from 9.45 in 2009 to 6.61 in 2013, while for every hundred thousand inhabitants, this indicator lies in the values 11.83 in 2009 and 9.1 in 2013.

The number of road accidents per 10,000 vehicles has increased from 36.65 in 2009 to 46.53 in 2013. This increase is due to the faster growth of the number of accidents versus the number of transport vehicles.
