Open Data Albania has conducted a research on victims of road accidents by identifying child victims up to the age of 15 years old as well as driver victims, passengers or pedestrians.

Statistics show that the number of accidents in which children under the age of fifteen years died, stand at levels of 20 to 30 accidents every year. The year with the highest number is the year 2010 where 30 accidents occurred, having as consequence the death of children under 15 years.

According to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure the number of persons who lost their lives in road accidents as a result of exceeded speed limit has been increasing in the years 2009-2012, to mark a decrease in 2013. Year 2012, which is also the year with the highest number of deceased, marked respectively 234 fatalities as a consequence of exceeded speed limit, representing 70% of total persons who lost their lives in these accidents.

The category of road user who has suffered the highest number of fatal accidents are drivers, followed by passengers, pedestrians, motorcyclists and cyclists. In 2013, 273 accidents occurred with fatal consequences for drivers, 162 for passengers, 95 for pedestrians, etc.

According to the respective Ministry commissioning or technical control even though a mandatory process and important for road safety remains still in low levels compared to the total number of vehicles in circulation. Thus, in 2013 only 68.7% of registered vehicles were technically controlled. This may refer to the possibility that many registered vehicles are not in circulation as well as the possibility of their circulation without technical control.
