Open Data Albania is updating data on the operation of TV Media. This research highlights the number of licenses by category of television media and the commercial entity that owns these screens. The data in the survey were extracted from Audiovisual Media Authority, AMA and the National Registration Center, NRC. In Albania, televisions are categorized according to the way television signal of the respective coverage of the territory are distributed. The categories are: National Private TV stations, Local Private TV, Private Satellite TV, Private TV stations with Repeater, Satellite Digital Television Platform and Cable Television.

National Private Television stations that are currently operating are TV Klan and Top Channel.  Klan Television has launched its activity in 1997 through Commercial Association with the same name. The Company’s capital has been increased significantly since its foundation. The capital of this company was also increased over the last year. According to the extract advertised on the National Registration Centre, the capital of the company amounted to ALL 1.23 billion in September 2015. In January 2014, the capital of TV Klan (J71413001J) was ALL 980 million. During the last year, the capital of this company increased by ALL 254 million. This company has three non-majority shareholders, respectively Ms. Alba Gina with 40 percent, Mr. Alexander Frangaj with 40 percent and Mr. Ervin Gjikola with 20 per cent of shares.

The other national television Top Channel (K12007002U) has a share capital of ALL 525.4 million owned by seven non-majority shareholders. Five of shareholders are the legal heirs of Mr. Dritan Hoxha, former founder of the company. The five shareholders hold together only 40 percent of the capital. Albert Sino is another shareholder with 40 percent of stakes and Aurel Baçi owns 20 percent of stakes.

Three entities are operating in the country as digital satellite platform and have a technology in digital broadcasting. Tring TV, DIGIT-ALB and SUPERSPORT have totally ALL 1.2 billion of stockholder’s capital. Tring TV owned by three individuals have the highest capital.

Local private televisions. In September 2015, 73 television operate as licensed, one of them figures out as a de-registred commercial entity. According to the information provided by NRC, conservative seizure is established for two of them, specifically for AGONSET as a company which holds the license of Agon Chanel screen and Albanian Screen known by the trade name ALSAT

12 companies that own TV stations have failed to complete data at NRC, which identifies defects in operation and probability this may cause their bankruptcy. There are also 4 companies that hold licenses for television broadcasting, which are suspended and are undergoing a liquidation process.

Two Satellite Private Televisions have licenses, where ALSAT currently a company under sequestration is more evident. They are allowed to broadcast through Satellite as well, which enables them to be followed in those areas that are covered by terrestrial network. Vision Plus with the trade name MEDIA Vizion has a share capital of ALL 352.96 million and its capital has been increased during the last financial year.

There are 118 Cable Televisions as of September 2015, while in January 2014, their number was 103. Currently 8 of such entities are under liquidation, 3 are removed from registers, 9 suspended and a part of them have not filed the required information to NRC. Cables are distributors of television programs through radio frequency.
